The new design which has a 90 degree bend, allows engineers to use M.R.T. 90 on certain gas valves where a standard M.R.T. would be too long.  

The M.R.T. 90 is still a rigid extension to manometer tubing, allowing heating engineers to take natural gas pressures simply and efficiently from tapered gas nipples on gas valves, but now offers the ability to fit into compact boilers where a gas valve is very inaccessible.
